Richard joined Webb Yates Engineers in 2017 and has since worked on a variety of projects utilising a range of different materials, including a number of projects extending and refurbishing existing buildings to provide new floor area and repurpose them, including infilling an existing brick enclosure to provide new creative workspace at Churchill College, Cambridge. He has also worked on several timber projects, including Elephant Park Pavilion, Peckham Rye and 134 Old Street. He is working towards becoming a conservation accredited engineer (CARE).

Since starting at Webb Yates, Richard has become a technical tutor for second and third year architectural students at Central St Martins, University of Arts London. Richard studied Engineering at Newcastle University, with elective modules in geotechnics. He started his career in 2010 working in offshore design, before moving to a small consultancy in 2012, where he worked on everything from house refurbishments to student accommodation blocks, including works to grade II listed buildings. In 2014, Richard joined a large, London-based engineering firm and was involved with a range of projects, culminating in two years working on the substructure of One Nine Elms as a senior engineer. The two-tower scheme in Vauxhall had a number of challenging site constraints, as well as a requirement for the basement to utilise a hybrid top down/bottom up construction sequence.
