Senior Structural Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Structural Engineer in our Birmingham office.

Webb Yates Engineers is looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer.  Candidates will ideally have a degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering and work towards a professional qualification.

 

Duties and Key Responsibilities / Role:

Project responsibilities:

  • Project Design Manager, Project lead or Discipline lead as required by Webb Yates Engineers
  • Ensure the technical delivery of project
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships at project level
  • Responsible for the day to day technical delivery of projects including getting reviews by senior members of staff
  • Responsible for client, external consultant and contractor’s communication
  • Ensure delivery of the project within the allocated budgets, programme and client’s expectations
  • Communicate with supporting disciplines regarding resource requirements
  • Communicate with the Project Director for support and guidance on project matters

Communication:

  • Liaise, collaborate and coordinate with other project team members
  • Attend meetings and representing the organisation externally

 

Technical:

  • Manage production of project deliverables such as drawings, calculations, reports and specifications. This may include the management of other engineers within the business
  • Ensure the checking and reviewing of engineering designs and deliverables
  • Undertake discipline specific analysis and design
  • Produce viable technical solutions, within the scope of a design brief
  • Produce project deliverables
  • Specify and co-ordinate the use of materials and systems
  • Design using relevant design codes and supplementary information
  • Input on construction techniques and solutions
  • Input on relevant environmental and sustainability issues and legislation
  • Input on relevant statutory legislation
  • Input on relevant construction and contract law where required
  • Input into project procurement routes
  • Carrying out site visits and surveys

Project Finances:

  • Ensure delivery of the project within the allocated budgets, programme and client’s expectations
  • Responsible for Monitoring and Reporting on project profitability
  • Responsible for agreeing additional fees for variations and additional scope
  • Responsible for updating Project Director of billing requirements

Team Management:

  • Input into weekly project programming at team meetings
  • Input into resource forecasting (time and cost) at team meetings
  • Maintain resource forecast for your projects referring issues to Associate Director
  • Liaise with Project Director on project performance

Business Development:

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining external peer level relationships
  • Support senior team where required in bidding new work
  • Support business development by maintaining project relationships

The successful candidate will be expected to work alongside more senior engineers on all stages of the structural and civil design of buildings and other projects. This will include initial scheme design of options, design development and coordination with other members of the design teams, detailed design calculations, assisting in the preparation of working drawings and details, together with site inspections.
