Barretts Grove 2 PS5

Barrett’s Grove, our Stoke Newington residential scheme, won the Small Housing Development award at the Brick Awards 2017.

The scheme, which also picked up a commendation for Innovative Use of Brick and Clay Products, was designed with Amin Taha + Groupwork and has received a raft of awards this year including a prestigious Stirling Prize nomination.

The Brick Awards 2017 Small Housing Development Award celebrates projects that demonstrate sensitivity to client requirements and local vernacular. Behind the design philosophy for Barrett’s Grove was the desire of planning officers and local residents to use brick, and the decision of the design team to create a simplified timber design, which would minimise overall cost and time on site. The character of the building was determined by the strategy to combine these materials, and resulted in an elegantly detailed form that echoes the aesthetic of its neighbours.
