Set behind a beautiful Victorian façade on 190 Corporation Street, the renovation work on the historic Citadel building in Birmingham has started. The redevelopment is an exciting opportunity to restore the building back to its former glory.

Together with Architecture 00 and contractor Overbury we have been brought on board to undertake the sensitive restoration and support developer Kinrise with our structural expertise.

Understanding the existing structure was fundamental before starting, therefore extensive investigations was carried out, with the discovery of the unexpected, to allow us to specify key repairs, justify new loading and create the new structures necessary to deliver this scheme economically and sustainably.

Local craftspeople and sustainably sourced materials are being used throughout the renovation, ensuring the building’s footprint remains low and contributes to Birmingham’s local economy, whilst saving carbon emission and reducing unnecessary landfill waste.

Due to open in the summer, Citadel will offer more than 46,000 sq ft of office, retail and social space as well as state-of-the-art technology. It will be operationally net zero carbon, powered by green electricity and LED lighting.
