Designed by Webb Yates Engineers and completed in Spring 2012, this new bridge provides access to Hackney Marshes from Mandeville Street and replaces an existing concrete bridge structure. The opening of the bridge was welcomed by the country's largest population of amateur footballers providing better access to the new changing rooms and community facilities at the Hackney Marshes Centre.
The bridge was closed to traffic in 2002 due to defects and inadequate design capacity. The bridge is an economic and sustainable solution for Hackney. The savings in cost made to the project also represent material savings by re-using concrete ramps and maintaining the existing infrastructure. Ground works were also minimised as a result of this solution.
