Now more than ever, we as designers need to understand the impact of our decisions on both the operational carbon emissions and the embodied carbon emissions.

To ensure that we take responsibility that goes beyond the requirements, we started Ideas on Tap together with architecture practice FaulknerBrowns, a new platform where Junior staff discuss and explore the different aspects of sustainability in the built environment.

The other week we had our first successful session, with the focus on whether timber is the solution to the climate crisis. With a wide range of opinions, the general consensus was that timber will not be a single solution but will play a key part in the decarbonisation of the industry and as designers we need to keep arguing for its merits.

We look forward to having more interesting debates on how we can reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable urban future.
