Webb Yates Engineers provided civil and structural services for a new covered training pitch on the site of an existing outdoor training pitch opposite the Chelsea Academy building.
The Cobham training ground has some significant design problems to overcome with high ground water and weak alluvial material overlaying clays at depth which require a detailed waterproofing strategy and piled foundations.
The super structure is a steel trussed frame with stressed ETFE infill panels to provide water tightness. The trusses span 60m and are at 8m centres.
The project was designed and delivered within the budget and programme under a design and build contract with Webb Yates Engineers being retained post stage 4 as clients engineer.
