Adjacent to a grade II* listed church, this scheme reconfigures and refurbishes a mid-century detached family home in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in East Harptree, Somerset.
The existing floor plan has been rationalised to create open and inviting internal spaces and improve storage areas for the family home. Clad in charred timber, the refurbished house responds to the building vernacular of the agricultural area, while the mono-pitched roof and large openings create a modern and architecturally interesting scheme. The new windows take advantage of views towards Chew Valley Lake and the surrounding areas.
Webb Yates Engineers was responsible for the extensive structural modifications to the existing building. The existing fabric was completely stripped back to the primary structure with the existing foundations retained, load bearing walls removed at ground floor level to create large, open spaces and a new roof structure providing additional floor to ceiling height.
