Smith at CDW 2014 - Webb Yates Engineers

Sponsored by Marley Eternit, this temporary installation, part of Clerkenwell Design Week, was conceived as an idealised factory structure that would house various "makers" during the week-long festival.

It is formed with Equitone fibre cement panels. Webb Yates Engineers and Studio Weave worked together to find a form that would use the Equitone panels as primary structural elements, rather than as a secondary cladding component. As part of this strategy, each of the portals within the building was formed with a prismatic Toblerone box section that gives the portal its rigidity and is what gives the inside of the structure its undulating form. The panels are interconnected with timber blocking at the corners and fixed with screws at the corners.
